Materials Testing Technician (Part time)

Ecovative Design is seeking to hire a Materials Testing Technician to perform a variety of
mechanical, biological, and quality testing procedures to evaluate materials for key metrics
and ensure our materials meet customer expectations. The Technician will measure parts,
make observations and operate an Instron machine system to test parts for various
characteristics. This role will also explore new testing methods and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies
Pursuing or obtained a degree in mechanical engineering or material science and/or 3+
years experience with mechanical testing; Excellent at organizing large amounts of data;
Proficiency in computer operation and ability to learn new software programs; Diligent;
Observant and analytical; superior attention to detail; Self motivated and independent; Great
time manager and multi-tasker; Confident communicator; Reliable; Flexible.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies
Experience working with Instron testing machines and software, prior experience in a quality
role at a manufacturing facility.

Community Engagement Designer

Ecovative is seeking to hire a Community Engagement Designer to work collaboratively with the GrowBio team to bring multiple biomaterial kits to market for an audience ranging from young students to professionals looking to pick up something new. This role will contribute to the goal by running experiments using biomaterials, designing biomaterial kits, and communicating with our community.

 

This role will run experiments at the intersection of biology and design, document all processes and results of experiments, develop video and written tutorials, design biomaterials kits leveraging the experiment results, test kits, improve kits, and create guides and other resources for users to learn. The Community Engagement Designer will be a user facing communicator responsible for responding to user and community comments and proactive distribution of information to drive consumer interest. This position will also lead workshops, deliver presentations, and teach others with the goal of increases sales for GrowBio.

 

Minimum Qualifications

3+ years’ experience in biodesign preferably coupled with a bio-based or communications degree. Must be data savvy, have a passion for biomaterials, and design literacy (basic visual and design skills a huge plus). Given the consumer facing aspects of this role, candidates must have experience writing and designing for social media platforms, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills, and demonstrated experience presenting new ideas to a user audience. In addition as a result of this role requiring strong collaboration on the GrowBio team, this role must also demonstrate a desire to support the team through a willingness to share work and experiences, as well as be willing to do any task at any given moment.

Production Operator

Join our Production team responsible for performing the day-to- day operations in Ecovative’s production facility. Production operators operate, set-up, clean and trouble shoot equipment, move materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site, provides verification and records information and ensures that all required procedures are followed. This role will work as a team member and teach others and learn from others on the various tasks of Ecovative’s production lines. The role will also perform inspections and tests of material at various stages on the process to ensure quality and prevent contamination. In addition, Production Operators maintain tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities. Successful applicants will have knowledge of safety rules and procedures and be able to quickly observe and adapts to Ecovative’s requirements, including wearing required personal safety equipment. As with all other positions at Ecovative, this role will assist with team building and process development and advise management of flow and planning opportunities.

If interested and qualified, there is an opportunity to work 50% time on the Production team and 50% as a Materials Testing Technician on our Core Research Team. The Materials Testing Technician will perform a variety of mechanical, biological, and quality testing procedures to evaluate materials for key metrics and ensure our materials meet customer expectations. Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

Experience in a quickly evolving and changing environment with an emphasis on quality controls, safety, and cleanliness; sense of urgency; willingness to change/adapt to new processes, procedures, or work requirements; ability to perform physical labor (packaging, lifting, etc.); awareness of product flow. HS Diploma. Excellent team player as well as independently motivated to take pride in the work that needs to be done and remain focused on the task at hand. Able to use pallet jack and ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

To be eligible for the 50% role of Materials Testing Technician, an applicant should be pursuing or have obtained a degree in mechanical engineering or material science and/or 3+ years’ experience with mechanical testing; excellent at organizing large amounts of data; Proficiency in computer operation and ability to learn new software programs; Diligent; Observant and analytical; superior attention to detail; Self-motivated and independent; Great time manager and multi-tasker; Confident communicator; Reliable; Flexible.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

Experience in food service, kitchen, greenhouse, manufacturing environment, or production line; Associates degree in life sciences or other related field; mechanical aptitude; forklift driver certification; a background in biology / environmental / sustainability; strong in numbers and calculations; lean manufacturing experience. Database, reporting, and inventory tracking experience. Prior experience in clean room operations.
