Synthetic foams take thousands of years to break down. We think it's crazy to ship something once in a material that will persist in a landfill or become litter. EcoCradle™ packaging is 100% biodegradable. So, when you're done with it, you can crumple it up and put it in a compost pile or on your garden.
EcoCradle™ is made of agricultural wastes like rice hulls and cotton burrs that farmers don’t have a good way to dispose of. We literally grow fungal mycelium, which is basically the roots of mushrooms, throughout this agricultural waste. We strive to source our raw materials locally, and produce our packaging materials as close to the end user as possible to cut down on transportation. Producing EcoCradle™ is an extremely low-energy natural process. An EcoCradle™ packaging buffer has extremely low embodied energy, and significantly reduces green house gas emissions compared to expanded polystyrene.

While all insulations help save energy, it's important to look at the whole material life cycle from production to end of life. Synthetic foam insulations are derived from fossil fuels, and their production is very energy intensive. At the end of their usable life, they contribute non-biodegradable mass to landfills, or results in toxic gases released through incineration. Greensulate™ is truly green at all stages in its lifecycle. Production of Greensulate™ uses the efficiency of nature to self-assemble. Our materials are literally grown indoors in the dark, and our entire process uses about 10x less energy than manufacturing synthetic foams. With an R value of 3 per inch, Greensulate™ rigid board insulation or structural insulating panels can save energy, save money and reduce your carbon footprint.
